Packing tips for you next move
Packing for a your move can be a fun way to go through all of your belongings, discover old items you forgot you had and clean out anything you don't use anymore before you start packing. Once you have everything you want to keep for the move, it's time to pack! We've gathered a few of our favorite packing and moving tricks we've learned over the years to help keep you organized during your move. Moving can be a big stress and the last thing you need is a moving mishap because your packing was unorganized.
1. Get rid of clutter
A move is a great excuse to sift through all the things you've acquired over the years and decide what you want to take with you into your new chapter. Moving allows us to sit with all the items we don't use anymore and say goodbye to make room and space for either new things or enjoy the minimalist life! Before you grab the boxes and start packing away - take a moment to do this trick!
2. Start packing early
Get ahead of the game and start packing your items for the move early. The sooner you can get organized, the easier the move will be. Start by packing items you rarely use or know you will not need from now until your move. Is it the middle of summer and you know you won't need you winter boots and coats sitting in the entryway closet? Grab those and pack them up! Make sure to label your moving boxes too. This will lead to an easier transition into your new space. And that leads us to our next packing tip!
3. Label moving boxes accordingly
Nothing is worse than opening boxes to find out your kitchen utensils are not in the box of linens you just opened. Grab a sharpie and label each box on at least 2 sides of the box in bold letters to let others and yourself know what's inside. Labeling each box by room can help movers know where to place the moving boxes when they unload.
4. Double box your TV
TV's are an expensive item you don't want to have to replace when you move. Moving a TV is a special task and we recommend double boxing your TV for a safe move. Place the TV in its original box and then place it in another box with padded packing paper.
5. Pack the kitchen with care
Kitchen's are a unique room to pack up. They are full of odd shapes, bulky items and fragile dishes that need a little bit of extra attention when packing for your move. Although our movers are especially careful, we want to make sure you take extra measures to make sure your china doesn't crack. Put packing paper between each dish and bundle them together and then wrap bubble paper around a few dishes at a time. Placing bowls and plates inside large pots and pans saves space too!
Packing glassware can be a challenge, use old cardboard pieces in between each glass for a buffer when packing.
6. Move smart, use more packing tape
A word from the wise, don't skip on packing tape when moving. When taping up your boxes double up on the packing tape to ensure that the boxes won't bust open during transit. An extra second of taping can save you from a moving mishap.
7. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Boxes are everywhere these days! Ask friends or neighbors to start saving boxes for you to use during your move, it's a great way to reuse boxes that would normally go in the recycling. It also will save you from having to purchase new moving boxes and cut costs down on your move.
